Level One - Filtered ISP: The most basic form of protection is to get your online service from an organization that filters out as much pornography as possible for you, before it ever reaches your home. Christian organizations, such as the ones listed below, will have your best interests more at heart. While this will do a much better job catching online porn than using software on your computer to do the filtering, there is no filtering service that could ever remove all online pornography from the web. The amount of online pornography is simply too overwhelming.

Level Two - Online Accountability: This is software that most likely filters online pornography but also has a second level of protection. In the software, you set up two or three accountability partners. Your computer then reports every website you visit to your accountability partners and alerts them if you visit even questionable sites (say, articles about cheerleaders). Some do a better job than others and some report more frequently. The added benefit is that the user knows he or she will be found out for sure, and that can be enough to stop the search for porn.

Level Three - White List Solutions: Some of us will not be stopped by any of the above preventative measures from trying to find porn in an especially weak moment. It may only happen once a year or so, but that is still too destructive on the family to allow. There is a fairly rock solid solution; creating a "White List" of sites that are okay to use (online banking sites, your work website, etc...). You select an accountability partner to set the password (it is not a good idea to use your spouse for this) and after that the ONLY sites you can visit are the approved ones. Any time you need to add a new one, just get your accountability partner to enter the new site to the list. Your computer is then no longer a risk to you.

Macintosh - the ability to set up White Lists comes built in with the operating system, under Parental Controls. It is possible to set up White Lists on some versions of Windows operating systems, but it is very difficult to set up and maintain.
